It was march 2008. I was in spore applying for my master degree to some U's (I'm Indonesian BTW). I didn’t enroll right away coz I was trying to get my PR first so I can study and work, which left me with all this free time while waiting for news from the immigration.

I didn’t go and look for cheap HDB room right away, instead I bunked myself in Lucky Plaza apartment $60 a night room, also in the spirit of waiting for the news. Big mistake!

Nights at orchard went from super dull books & DVDs sessions from kino & HMV, to thai girls from helpful taxicabs in front of Hilton. And then, Geylang came along. $300 for long time + additional hotel fees. Save & affordable for me, even for twice a week basis.

By then it was already a month and still no news yet. Loneliness grew on me as I didn’t have any friends since I was not part in any society yet. Joined ESPZEN spore amateur soccer league. Didn’t help much. Still lonely. Until I stumbled upon sammyboyforum and its heavenly yahoogroups ad..

But I didn’t care. I fell in love! All I want is to be with her. Nothing else. Even took Russian language lessons! LOL

But then the honeymoon was over. I had to woke up. More like woken up by the sight of the balance in a my bank account. Like a punch in a face, I realized I had spent more than half of my lifetime saving that I earned from 5 years busting my ass, the one that I saved for my education.

I still got the money to pay what I owed the Lucky plaza apartment for 2 months room rent.. which is a lot! I was back to earth and found that I only have about S$10,000 left on my bank account, which was not enough for anything anymore.

Broke and fell in love. I knew I had to stop before I lose all of my money. Went to watch Morgan Freeman & Jack Nicholson’s The Bucket List alone at Lido and cried my heart out. Crying for my futureless love. Crying for my hopeless future.

By that time I had already gained a big spender reputations among spore sex scene. Liliya was already pined her hope on me and imagining that this young and rich boy would go back with her to Tashkent Uzbekistan to marry her and release her from poverty, which made me even brokenhearted.

Until the end I never got the heart to tell her the truth that I was not that rich boy she had imagined, and that I single handedly delivered my school tuition to her mama’s wallet. I got out with what’s left on my bank account, left spore broke and brokenhearted. Needless to say, she was confused when I gave her a call from home, and later furious by my ‘mysterious’ vanishing decision.

We still in contact 2 months after until she went home, and slowly realized that I was never going come to be with her. And then she told me that she found a guy, and that they’d get married soon, in which I’m sure was her way to finish our weak relationship that was going nowhere.

Aftermath: I traded my ‘could be’ excellent education with 2 weeks of great fuck with a white girl. Other than that, was nothing but an illusion.

I never got my old job back (I resigned when I decided to go study), and I never found a salary with a figure that matched my old job again. I’m now working as a clerk in this shitty job, and probably will never get a chance to save that kind of money ever again.

Now I feel that there’s an alter in me. One that regrets it. One that doesn’t. What do you think?

Simple spending formula if u find yourself short near the end of the month:

Total Income / 4 = Rent
Total Income / 2 = Living & Discretionary Expenses (including paying to play)
Total Income / 4 = Capital Accretion (try to multiply it as well by smart investing)

Side Note: Rasa Sentosa is nice but getting a little long in the tooth, but Sentosa Resort & Spa is better. Capella I heard is fine, never been there but many friends say its not worth the premium over the former.
