Opening a massage shop
Hi need to do some research here.
License I read somewhere there is not a need for license is it ? Just need to find a shop space, rent it with approval from the landlord. Renovation, initial cost Roughly how much do I expect my capital to be ? is 10k too little or need about 30k ? Salary How much do I need to pay my staff ? 10% or 30% of the massage rate ? Opening hours If no license is required, does that means I can open 24hours ? |

Re: Opening a massage shop
I've been thinking of setting up massage shop too so I've done researched previously. Let me help you to answer your question
1. Where do you get such an idea ? Of course you need a LICENSE to operate a massage shop. You do not need it if your staff is all vision-impaired and only do foot massage in very open environment. Besides you need to apply a license from police, you also need written approval from building management, lease agreement with landlord plus approval from NEA. You need approval from NEA as not all places in singapore can have massage shops 2. Renovation cost - depends on what you want to setup and how big is your place. I don't think you need more than 10K. You mean you need 10K to buy 2 beds, chairs, 1 table and simple paintings of coat? Factor in 2K for designs layout to be sent for approval. But you can save that 2K if you know basic drawing - it's not difficult. 3. How much to pay? Depends on whether yours is clean or not ![]() 4. There are 2 CAT to massage establishment licenses. Most belong to those whereby you can only operate from 10am till 11pm only. If you want to have more flexible in opening hours, you need to apply for the higher CAT and one of the conditions is you must commit at least 50K in renovations, I think. This is usually for HCs Quote:

![]() 1) Ok so i need a license indeed. But which come first ? Find a shop then get approval from building managment ? Apply for NEA then license or ? 2) Ok so less than 10k should be enough for a cosy place. 3) You mean the boss only collects $150 each from the ladies and nothing else ? The entrance fees goes to the ladies ? I thought the boss earns throught the entrance fees only. 4) Ok so its only 10am to 11pm only i guess. |

Re: Opening a massage shop
1. First, you must secure the shop first. Concurrently, you should check with NEA whether you can setup massage at that place. They would not give you formal approval if you do not secure the shop. But to us, of course we must know whether we can get approval before we rent, right? So chicken and egg problem.
So official order is 1) Secure the place and sign the tenancy agreement 2) Get written approval from Building Mgt 3) Get NEA's approval 4) Submit 1, 2 & 3 to Police Licensing Division to get License approval Above is official order but I think we must be street smart and do some of them in parallel. Some PRC do not even do 1, 2, 3 & 4 and immediately get a place and start business. Of course, they kena big time if there is an av check. 2) 10K is more than enough unless you want it big and grand. I would advise you not to commit a lot of money in case no business or affected by raids. 3) By "right", boss collects entrance fee (in full) plus the misc fees for towels washing, air-con, electricity etc while girls collect extra services fee. But unless you're full-time at the place, how do you keep track how many customers walk-in? You may have 30 customers a day, but your girls tell you no business, only 5 customers and give you 5 x entrance fee. They will keep the 25 x entrance fees themselves. Usually boss cannot be at the place full time to track no of customers because he could have other full-time job or he could own multiple shops. If own multiple shops, how could he be available at all shops at the same time? So "standard practice" in the market is boss just collect $150-$200 from each girl each day (regardless of whether she works or not). Then how she works and how much she earns then is her issue. By adopting this standard, it become very easy to manage. Everyday (or every week), just collect the money in advance. I'm sorry if I offend you by saying this, you look very new to this kind of business so you ask many novice questions. My advice to you is, you must be very street smart before you commit yourself. If not, easily conned by the PRCs ![]() If you're lao jiao, you should know that besides collecting $150, you also need to collect towel fees, electricity fee etc plus levy fee + CPF contribution from the lady. If not, you sure lugi. Not be taken in by their pity that they have to give you so much. They definitely can earn much more. Assuming they only have 5 customers a day (quite below average), their daily earnings is 5x$30 entrance + 5x80-100 for extras = $650. 1 month = $13K (I count 1 month=20 days only) Quote:

Re: Opening a massage shop
Seems like a lot of other bros also like me, thinking of setting up a massage shop. Some PM me to ask some questions they feel cannot write it openly
I'm just wondering whether a few of us can pool in money to setup 1 together. Then can do it big or setup multiple joints at 1 go. |

Re: Opening a massage shop
bro chelsea is partly correct, generally ppl say no need lic.mean
no masg parlour act 173 lic, but still to apply for exemption notice from police, its a letter, for open concept shop, cant put curtain nor partition. Mainly for foot msg joint, masseuse lic for worker not needed. No need mas course, but later think rule will change. Newbies shld try this type of shop, small capital. But u must hv friend who are good reflexologists to prop u up. Just in case u cant get worker. U also need to know some local massage gal willing to work with u, recruiting malaysian and pr, subject to mom quotas. For salary norm is fifty percent comm to worker. Reno, 10k is simple for open concept. Add a few k, for yr chair n bed, plus a lcd tv, lighting, water dispenser, counter. Last edited by johnn; 04-03-2011 at 12:41 AM. |
