There is a common saying, gays & lesbians are more prone to HIV.
I was thinking, why is that so?

The sperms can spread better through anal sex (man to man)?
For lesbians, there is no penetration, then how does the diease spread among them? if its just those blood contact thing, then the chances is almost the same as everyone else.

Any bro can give me some sex education?

For gays, the reason should be due to anal sex. I heard that the risk of HIV transmission via anal contact is much higher than vaginal contact.

For lesbian, i'm not sure if they are more prone to HIV. Hopefully, someone who knows more can enlighten us.

Lesbians are women who have sex with other women. But that does not mean they do not have sex with men. Women can identify as lesbian and still have sex with men, use drugs, have sex for money, be victims of rape or abuse or have artificial insemination (sex toys etc), all of which can put them at risk for HIV.

To date, there are no confirmed cases of direct WSW sexual transmission of HIV. However, case reports of WSW transmission of HIV and the well-documented risk of female-to-male transmission indicate that vaginal secretions and menstrual blood are potentially infectious and that mucous membrane (for example, oral, vaginal) exposure to these secretions has the potential to lead to HIV infection.

Reported cases of HIV infected WSW mostly had other behavioural risk factors such as injection drug use, unprotected vaginal sex with men who have risk factors for infection - MSM or men who are infected or men with drugs abuse injects or more rarely, receipt of blood or blood products.

Note: WSW (Women who have Sex with Women) MSM (Men who have Sex with Men), regardless of how they identify themselves - lesbian, gay, bisexual, or heterosexual.

Lesbians? This is not true.

Just look at the HIV stats in SG, 90% of the infections occur in men. Of the men who are infected with HIV, 60% of them are straight men. For women, they are mainly heterosexual women infected by their husbands/partners.
