Doing away with mummy tip and waiter tip in KTVs.

Anybody here knows why there is a need for mummy for KTVs?

Issit necessary to have mummy in KTV? Job of mummy is to take care of girls and also take care of customers. If girl too long butterfly, can complain to mummy and gal can come back quickly. However some mummy just appear less than 20 mins throughout the session and come collect tip which I think is a waste of time. I am trying to compare to an insurance agent. If I consult an agent, agent will help me explain to buy the plan so that I can understand and make better informed decision. Hence agent receive commission. But this mummy system, they dont value add anything. They should make it optional for customers to choose mummy or not. Yes I know some places got no mummy but not a lot of places with no mummy, so limited. They should open this option to joints with mummy for customers to opt for mummy or not. If girls disappear long, I will tell the girl i not taking her anymore. Dont need go through mummy. I think mummy is just a stupid system they come out with to carrot head guys like us. Whats bad is those mummy u cant play or touch them (especially those pretty ones). Worst is those you book mummy but on the day you come, end up is just random malaysian guy saying he is the "mummy" WTF.

Ok next is waiter tip. I think its unnecessary also to give tips to waiter. Somemore got 3 or 4 of them during bill time expect u to give them $10 each. Worst is your girl will pressure you to tip them and will lose mood one. During bill time these waiters will pretend to give warm towel to you and they expect tips from you. What I will do is I will always bring my own wet tissue and put on the table. If they offer me, I reject and point to my wet tissue. KTV joints already charge us 10% service charge. Why is there a need to give tips to waiter? When I go eat Swensens I pay the 10% service charge in the bill but I didnt tip the waiter. This should apply to KTVs too.

What do you guys think?

If you bother to build a good relationship with your regular KTV mummy, the tip you pay her is well worth it.

A good mummy can steer you away from a girl who is known to be a bad choice, and once she knows your "taste" she will look out amongst the batch of available girls which are the ones worth recommending to you. She will also tell you which girls are "taken" - so don't bother trying to chase those and which ones have "supporters" hence not available for short-time. Mummy is also generally well-informed on her girls' history, and she will know which girls have what type of bad habits - some do drugs, some like to fuck raw, some girls specialize in juggling multiple boyfriends. Not all Mummies side the girl over the client. Mummies can tell, which girls are likely to stay long (very few) and which ones are likely to milk the most out of their stint here, and fuck off back to VN or to other faraway lands. To a Mummy, loyal customers are extremely valuable because Mummies inevitably switch KTVs at some point in their careers, so she needs her loyal clients to support her wherever she goes.

Your analogy is that of an insurance agent, I think if you treat them right they can be like your very well-connected Private Banker.

When I was still a regular in Supreme/Orchard K, I never needed to ask for a lineup - my regular Mummy at each joint would have already shortlisted the girls and only the pre-screened ones will come into the room for me to choose. If I indicated a preference for a girl whom the Mummy thinks is "dangerous" (i.e. has a reputation of cheating clients, always disappearing even during booking, or has a "boyfriend" who tends to get jealous), she will not hesitate to nudge me gently to choose another. They have their ways, and it depends very much on what they think of you as a client.

Obviously this level of service isn't available for $50/$100. You need to slowly build a rapport with the Mummy, and understand her situation in the KTV. During times when I understand a Mummy is slightly below her monthly quota, I will buy bottles to keep even though I still have some unopened.

A Mummy can extend your bottle expiry, so you don't have to worry. I always find that a good Mummy in every KTV is very very useful and well worth the tip that they get for each booking

Obviously if you feel the pinch in giving Mummy $100 for each outing, my advise to you is - don't chiong KTV and maybe try to earn more first.

I was experienced it at L9/L7 to distribute tip to waiter. Some places still not so bad.

What you said is very true but it is rare in the current climate especially those that are girls become mamis n are more like sis with the girls... The old mamis r worth every cent of their tips...

It's also important to understand, that girls choose the Mummy career path usually because they are already sick and tired of being groped by strange guys every day. Almost always, being a Mummy means she gets a big pay cut and also a quota (usually a min number of bottles to sell, or a revenue target per month for the "team"). So they view KTV as a business - so choose what kind of customer you want to be to her

Treating a KTV Mummy like she is still a KTV Girl is probably the fastest way to put yourself on her "lousy customer" list. Yes I heard of some KTV Mummy who still "go out" with clients - a few of my chiong buddies have fucked Mummy Sammy when she was still in Singapore, for example. But these type of Mummies are usually the exception - after all there is an inherent conflict of interest if a Mummy competes for the same client as her girls.

Re: Waiter tips - see my above post on how you treat your Mummy. If you are a good customer, the Mummy will "control" the waiters for you. You don't have to control them yourself. More likely than not, you pissed off your KTV Mummy because you wanted to grope her, so she left you at the mercy of the multitude of waiters all waiting to take $10/pop during Bill time.

What u said also has some truths in it but who are we and how are we going to make any changes? Sbf might seem a big forum but how much force can you gather to really affect the big players? We are just kacang putih or ikan bilis in the big world of ktv.

Fully appreciate your views - I do not chiong anymore so I heard that the scene has now gone from bad to worse....

They also provide backend support like visa issues, accommodation issues, and to also take care of the girls. These days the mummy more like friends than actually "mummy'' who graduated from working girls to become mummy.


As for waiter tips, again ''last time" is for them to NOT come in to provide services and to "guard the door" while you experience customer service in the room. However you only tip those who come in and "drink" and actually service your room. Those you never see before, just ignore.

My personal approach to waiters - I know 3 or 4 who are regulars by name, and they know mine too. I chat with them during their smoke breaks sometimes, ask for their recommendation on which items on the menu are nice to eat - light-hearted stuff. Waiters usually really appreciate it that a customer actually pays some attention and bother to remember their names.

If a strange waiter comes to me expecting a tip, I will ask him who he is and what is my name. This usually catches them off-guard, and I say firmly that I already chose the waiters who are supposed to serve my room beforehand - I don't recognize you so maybe you went to the wrong room. And I will rattle off the waiters' names who are supposed to serve my room.

They usually disappear quite quickly after that.

Girlfriend working as waitress in ktv. Salary only $1100 from 4pm to 3am.
Always hear complain about stingy customer and about the boleh land waiter eating tips when dividing the tips after work. Always short change her.

Of course I hope she get more tips

Best is to tips individually and let the waiter or waitress keep their own tips rather the tips on bill because the waiter who bring the bill eat tips also.
