Just stumbled upon this thread... checked first few pgs, FF to this last pg... i find most of the tieng viet mentioned here is southern style.

Northern (Hanoi) and central pronounciation is very different. Which would u rather learn? The northern (official) style or the southern (Saigon) style?

Eg of northern pronounciation:
ban ron is pronounced "butt zot" (busy)
mot nghin (1,000)... in the south its mot ngan
etc
