If you do download your friend’s invite to do so for free, this app will take over your contact list and send VIA SMS the same invite to your list of friends - which in most countries means you will incur charges.

Complaints to your phone carrier will not bring you any relief as it IS your phone sending out the SMS’s and no use trying to contact the GLIDE app. developer as you cannot even figure out who this is.

Just to clarify - I phoned my friend when I received his curious SMS asking me to download this app. for free.

He explained what happened and that he had already accumulated over HK$400 in SMS fees. He approached his phone carrier - who told him that there is nothing they can do about these charges as it is indeed his number which has been sending out these SMS messages, and advised him to go to the Police.

Like wise there's not much that the Police can do and instead advised him to just cancel his phone number and probably best that he even retire his telephone set as apparently this "infection" MAY cause further problems. The Police Technical Expert told him that whilst right now all it is doing is just sending out these chargeable SMS's, he speculates that the virus will have "further" instructions after it has completed this initial stage of infecting phone sets and do worse things later.
