Chances of being able to cheong during CNY
 

Hi guys, new to this part. Would like to check on the possibility of cheonging in PRC during CNY. I'll be in Hainan, Wenchang from 23rd Jan to 25th Jan. If cannot cheong eg KTV/MPs, etc, will be very sad.. but their MP standard also damn low... KTV still not so bad.. heh

Sad to say. Will be there with older gen. Accompany them as they visit their relatives. So only limited cheonging within the area itself. Sigh.

Was in CP in years past during CNY and sad to say that stocks are largely diminished - by at least 50% or more. However, there are less punters to compete with and you can still find gems.

This year I will be in HK during CNY. I figure that WGs will less likely leave due to visa issues.

If you find "MP standard also damn low... KTV still not so bad" at this time

then advise u better not cheong in PRC during CNY.
You will be f**king disappointed.

For me, the most annoying part of being in CP during the CNY is the constant “demand” by just about everybody for “angpows” – from MMs to mommies – all the opportunists. I don’t mind giving fat angpows to MMs, mummies and other service providers who give me good services, and to others who at least give me (like the smiling auntie who keeps the hotel lobby clean) a good feeling. But to be asked for angpows by all the opportunists just irritates the hell out of me. Now I avoid CP during CNY.

I have not spent CNY in Wenchang, but at least I found Haikou during CNY not so mercenary compared to CP. There is no doubt that the number of MMs will be depleted, but the severity depends on the individual joint, e.g. the way the management “encourages” the girls to stay back in order to minimize the effects to their bizs. I know it is not uncommon for the SNs to postpone paying to the MMs the amount paid by customers using credit card till close to, or just after CNY, and those MMs who leave early without official approval even run the risk of not being paid for the amount owed.

Good luck, Ironpole. I’ll just stay put in Wenchang, and hope Dragon will bring you good luck to meet many gems. Indeed, I’m also seeing more and more MMs who choose to stay back during CNY since it makes more economic sense because of the extra cash they can make (less supply and angpows), coupled with the expected cash outflow if they return to their villages during CNY. They can also avoid fighting the atrocious CNY crowd on the road by returning a couple weeks later.

Thanks bro :). Got news that ktv is open but no news on the meimeis. I know a couple going back (those I got the last time) but also heard a few are staying. Think I will need to book rooms early so got Meimeis. Haha

So during cny, is it common practice to give small Ang naps to all mm and mamasan and if so how much? Or do you just give to the mm who sit with you and the dj and mamasan who serve you and what's the usual Amt besides the usual 100 rmb tip?

there's no rules to whether u want to give out ang pows to the mms, dj, mummies or the cleaner ladies ...
but it's always a nice gesture as this is a chinese traditional culture ...
and it's always good to see them happy when they received ang pow from u ...

how much to give depends on how deep is ur pocket ... :) :)

for the past yrs when i am in CP during CNY, i always prepared many ang pows of different amount to give away ....
