Citizenship Headache

Hi Bros,

I really need some help....

I just have a newborn baby in Vietnam with my Vietnamese "wife" - We are not officially married.

Now, I need to apply Singapore citizenship for my baby. I have checked with ICA and they says that I need to get married first with my "wife" and also need to produce the brith certificate of the baby indicating I am the father.

However, the hospital which issue the birth certficate did not indicate my name. Problem....:(

Any bros have such problem and solution, I would greatly appreciate for some advice. Thank you.

Interesting problem which I may need a solution some time too...

Camp! :D

But just logically speaking, can't you simly approach hospital or birth registrar there to add your name as the father?

Bro look like you need to get your "wife"to Spore to ROM first before you can settle the child citizenship.

I also had a vietnamese girlfriend, so go around asking and checking the procedure.

If your child is born in Vietnam and she is not married to you yet, you need to go to the local municipal office or police station to swear-in with your girlfriend. It like a local process to show you are the father of her child. There is a fee to pay but i dun know how much as you need to check with the local government office.

Ask you girlfriend or her relative to go to the police station to ask first.

After that go back to the hospital to amend the birth certificate.

I have heard many versions on registering the child and you really have to ask around.

Forget about asking ICA or Singapore Consular in Vietnam, they cannot really help you.

Once you have the proper documents ready then go ICA, but you have a maximum of 12 month to register your Child, if not need to explain to ICA in writing on the delay.

I know its not much help and you need to make a trip to Vietnam to settle it.

All the Best and Congrats.

Is because u are not official marry thats why the birth cert dont have your name

Marry her officially there, with the marriage cert check with the local hospital whether can include your name or not,if cannot it can do done, money can settle everything there, your 'wife' should know how to go about it.:)

almost 100% fool proof verification ... Deoxyribonucleic Acid test
but need 2 spend $$$$

http://sg.theasianparent.com/article...y-dna-testing/

i believe most of the hospitals in sg would hv a genetics lab capable of performing such a test, but u may hv 2 check with them as 2 whether they will do paternity testing.
Most of them usually focus on finding genetic defects or diseases.

Bros,

Thank you all for your kind reply.

It seems that there will be a lot of running here and there to do and money to be spend... :(

The problem is that I am a foreigner so there may be a lot of issues. I guess most important is to get married first then go one step at a time.

I wonder can I buy a valid official married certificate in Vitenam? I don't mind spending some money to cut short the time. :)

Bro, you say you are foreigner ? then why you are registering the child for Spore Citizen??

For Spore Citizen, be it man or woman, if our child is born abroad or one parent is not Sporean at least can apply the child for Spore Citizenship by Descent.

I don't know your status in Spore (PR, Work Permit or S-Pass etc...) but you better seek advise from the right government authority (ICA or MOM).

Should be "..but you'd better seek ADVICE......".

"Advise" is a verb.

Firstly, if you and your gf are not officially married, the child's birth certificate will not have your name. Without your name in the birth cert, you can forget about getting citizenship for your child. In order for you to insert your name in the child's birth cert, you need to marry your gf first. After marrying her, you need to make a declaration that the child is your's. Upon which, you can apply to `adopt' the child under yr surname. But this is at the vietnam side.

At singapore side, you will face even greater challange. As the date of your marriage certificate is later than the birth date of your child, you need `proof' that the child is really yours. I shan't make it so clear as to how you can proof the blood relationship. When proven, ICA will consider your application for your child to be Singapore citizenship. But let me tell you first, there are many singaporean man with the same situation as yours and even with proof, ICA still didn't grant their child citizenship. You should be strong in your education level and financial stability.

Hmm.... So TS need to "back-date" the marriage cert (before the baby's birthday) in Vietnam for better chance. At least with some $$$, this can be done over there, I presume.

What is the deadline to register the kid in Singapore if all else is OK? Is it within 1 year of the baby's age? Or before 18yo? I know we can change the name of baby within 1 year of birth registration, the 18yo thingy is for NS stuffs (I think) what about citizenship registration?
